Energy, oddly, is the softer variable. Electric motors and drive controls run closer to their optimal efficiency when the system holds a stable line speed and torque, and repeated shutdown and restart cycles introduce thermal stress, inspection requirements, and failure risk that show up later as maintenance cost rather than on the power bill.
