A parked car can now render a 3D game while its driver still hesitates to use adaptive cruise control. Under the hood, high-density chips process sensor fusion, control fuel injection and manage battery systems, yet most owners experience them only as a smoother screen or a snappier map.
The computing power is there because modern vehicles are rolling networks of electronic control units linked by CAN bus and Ethernet. Advanced driver-assistance systems, or ADAS, rely on real-time image recognition and trajectory planning, tasks rooted in control theory and computational geometry. Infotainment stacks share the same silicon budget, so a processor sized for lane-keeping and collision avoidance can also run a racing game demo without breaking a sweat.
Human factors pull in the opposite direction. Behavioral inertia and risk aversion keep many drivers within a narrow band of acceleration, cornering force and even braking potential, regardless of traction control or electronic stability control. Cognitive load and trust calibration mean that features like automated emergency braking, torque vectoring and blind-spot monitoring often sit underused, while the GPU that enables them gets noticed only when a game or app makes it visually obvious.
