Gravity control, if it exists at all, would be the most radical yet also the cleanest route. General relativity allows mass and energy to curve spacetime; a craft that could locally shape that curvature would not need to push on air or rock, only on the metric itself, trading acoustic noise for immense energy density and precision field gradients that no current technology can achieve.
Magnetism looks tamer but comes with its own price tag. A saucer using superconducting coils could ride magnetic field lines the way a maglev train rides a track, yet mountains have no built-in guideway, so the vehicle would need to carry or project strong fields, interact with induced eddy currents in the ground, and manage Lorentz forces that would torque its hull unless actively cancelled by feedback control and high-bandwidth inertial sensors.
Reaction forces remain the most honest option; they just have to be hidden. High-area ion or plasma thrusters can push against air with low exhaust velocity, spreading momentum transfer over a broad disc so that pressure waves stay below hearing, while advanced heat exchangers and radiators dump waste energy as infrared rather than hot jets, turning the saucer into a flying, silent heat engine that glows to sensors but whispers to human ears.
