Natural grain then finishes the disguise. Wood’s quasi-random pattern creates dense spatial frequencies that act like a visual dither, distributing error the way audio noise-shaping spreads hiss. Against this structured randomness, a scratch aligns with existing lines, its geometry partially absorbed into the pattern, turning wear into texture rather than a crisis demanding repair.
