Perceived sweetness is partly an illusion built on contrast. Satiety is where the bargain gets interesting. The richer sensory input from smell, taste, and trigeminal stimulation makes the drink feel more substantial, nudging hypothalamic circuits that integrate interoception and reward, so the brain tags this almost zero calorie drink as satisfying rather than as mere hydration.
