Attention moves first. It does not wait for object recognition to estimate bodily scale or decode position; the early contest is zero-sum, and the strongest contrast receives priority.
Size arrives late. Depth cues, occlusion, and spatial relations must be integrated before the brain judges whether a body is large, distant, central, or marginal. Cone signals feed opponent channels, making the amber cue distinct rather than merely bright. Chromatic adaptation can sharpen the imbalance, because an eye adjusted to a cool or dark surround reads the warm patch as comparatively stronger. The person has not become larger. The visual system has handed them the first speaking part. In that small circle, attention settles like a court before the argument has begun.
